Year2024
In January 2024, the Sarriart Music School (Sarrià de Ter) contacted me to create a special large-format poster for International Women's Day, which would serve as the entrance to the local art exhibition. To create the digital artwork, we started with two photographs that overlapped, creating a narrative in two main layers: the first captured a woman's eyes in black and white; the second, a field of flowers in purple tones (as an iconographic colour of feminism), combined with other vivid, warm and cool hues. The first layer represented the woman's gaze upon the reality that each of us experiences. Over this first layer, a filter was applied that slightly distorted it, symbolising the lens through which each woman perceives that reality, which is then transferred into her art. Finally, the layer of flowers was overlaid and brought to the foreground, representing how this gaze and the filter through which each woman lives and observes, bloom and transform into the art that she ultimately creates. The piece also aimed to reflect the colours of the exhibition itself, including both the black-and-white works and the coloured pieces.
Both photographs were created by two female photographers, while the typography accompanying the digital artwork in the poster (Authentic Sans) was also designed by a woman, Christina Janus. I like to think that the piece not only contributes to the exhibition but also to women around the world who are artists and designers.
As of today, this piece is still displayed at the entrance of the school, and I am especially pleased that the students, teachers, and their families can feel inspired by it at some point.
